I Can’t Create a Fire in Your Belly

Strange headline? I know. But I find it necessary to help explain why this is now a content platform vs. the home base for a career coaching service.

Of the many wonderful people I have coached in the past — the ones that have been the most successful (and I’ve enjoyed working with the most) are the ones who have had a sense of urgency.

They came to me with a goal, or a desire to streamline the path to a goal…and from there it was like a game of catch. They spoke, I listened, we ideated, I directed, they acted.

I write and talk a lot about what a gift it is for people to have dreams and big visions for their life, but equally important (and rare) is the natural drive to pursue those dreams. I can teach tactics for presenting a professional history as clearly as possible. I can give advice about how to sculpt a compelling story that companies will want to hear.

I cannot, however put a fire in someone’s belly—that creates natural urgency to hunt down those goals and make them real.

The reason that I do not wish to be a career coach focusing on 1:1 services anymore (as my main priority) is because most people who come to me as clients fall into one of two buckets:

  1. They fit everything in the world I love and care about in a client— but they have no funds to pay for my service. I launched my website to serve these people!! I want to give them everything I have, at scale! And sadly I have to have an income to run Jamie Hawk’s Flight Society full-time…or else I would just hand out free coaching to big-hearted, dreaming women all day every day!

  2. They have plenty of money. They just want to outsource the work. They don’t move quickly in doing their ‘homework’ from our conversations. They say they want a new role quickly but then days go by and they don’t complete the required steps (on their end) to keep our process moving along. I start to lose enthusiasm and end up doing way more for them than I should just to get the service agreement to end. This is not something I’m proud to say, but most of the time—- this experience has occurred when I have worked with young men. I am not proud to share this, as I am literally the mom of two very young men…but it’s the truth. And this platform will always be a place where you can count on the TRUTH.

I will do promotions from time to time to hype up people’s resumes, but I want to teach courses, and connect like-minded people, and give service to young women who have no one to turn to. I want to be the friend or family member they feel is in their corner, helping them achieve their dreams, even if they have no one else.

In summary:

A goal + a fire in the belly (aka natural motivation to go get that goal) =

DREAM COME TRUE ASPECTS OF A JHFS CLIENT/READER/MEMBER

If you have these two elements in your arsenal, settle in cause you’re in the right place. Be proud of your gifts because they are so rare. And if you posess these traits, I will never let you down.

Jamie Hawk

I am Jamie Hawk—-a dynamic boy mom (who worships her own mom)—-and has experienced the miraculous fortune of marrying a guy who has never made her feel like she was ‘too much’ (all while having an extended family that also made me feel like doing the MOST, was not too much at all). I am not religious, but I am called to wear myself out completely trying to make sure that young women (especially those of color who are really presented with unique challenges) are given all of the support, perspective, and information they deserve to intentionally build the lives they want and deserve. This platform is intended to collect and disseminate priceless multi-generational knowledge, and supply consistent guidance for the incoming generation of women.
