Let’s Talk Timeline

Everyone’s got one—-but if it interests you, here’s mine!

1985: Born in Texas (yes I know, same state as Beyonce)…and through the greatest miracle of my life, I was born as the daughter of the best person I’ve ever known…Linda Gail Mathews <3

1989: Family moves to CT and my younger brother is born!

1993: I have the best 3rd grade teacher ever, Mrs. Pelletier, who cheers me on as a writer and a creative person and I start to be obsessed with magazines.

2001: My best friend Caitlin Losey (who is weird and wonderful and talented and encouraging) officially becomes my bff. Stay tuned, so much more on her to come (as she continues to be my hetero-lifemate).

2003: I leave all my best friends in Connecticut to attend the University of Alabama (my mom’s alma mater) where I start to intern for Sports Illustrated on Campus and as a result——meet my husband, 3 of my current best friends, and one of the best mentors of all time!

2007: I graduate from Alabama after 3 on campus internships and 2 summer internships with Sports Illustrated! I move to New York (in a bed-bug ridden, mouse-infested first apartment in Park Slope with Caitlin lol), and begin working at Entertainment Weekly Magazine/EW.com! I begin to mentor everyone I can— I can’t even help it. I am so thrilled to be working and living in New York, I want to share everything I’ve acquired with everyone I can help.

2007 - 2015: I work for Time Inc. in marketing and sales, and fortunately get to meet the most inspirational person I’ve ever known— who showed me my potential and challenged me like never before (much, much more to come on this person—- the one and only Ron King).

2014: I marry the love of my life, Chris Hawk in New Orleans!

2015: We move to Atlanta!

2016: We have our first son! I was on maternity leave and it hit me that I needed to turn my love of career coaching and mentoring into a side hustle. I launched ‘Jamie Hawk’s Flight School’ with the help of my first ever all-in career superstar, Marisa Geuther

2017: I meet the epic President/Founder/Publisher/Feminist Windsor Western and start selling for Her Campus Media! I meet and learn from one of the most magnificent managers in history, Katrina Campanale

2019: Our second son is born!

2022: I upgrade my brand’s name from Jamie Hawk’s Flight School LLC to Jamie Hawk’s Flight Society LLC to better reflect the growing group of amazing women I’ve met and worked with!

2023: I leave Her Campus Media after 7 awesome years, and we move to Brooklyn, NY!

2024: JHFS is my full-time job for the first time ever, and I have never been more inspired.

HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Jamie Hawk

I am Jamie Hawk—-a dynamic boy mom (who worships her own mom)—-and has experienced the miraculous fortune of marrying a guy who has never made her feel like she was ‘too much’ (all while having an extended family that also made me feel like doing the MOST, was not too much at all). I am not religious, but I am called to wear myself out completely trying to make sure that young women (especially those of color who are really presented with unique challenges) are given all of the support, perspective, and information they deserve to intentionally build the lives they want and deserve. This platform is intended to collect and disseminate priceless multi-generational knowledge, and supply consistent guidance for the incoming generation of women.
